Following the release of their single “Neon Memories” back in April, vaporwave trio death’s dynamic shroud have announced a new seven-track EP planned for release on July 31 titled Messe de E-102. Along with the news is another cut from the project, its title track, which like its preceding single came together in its original form nearly a decade ago before being fully rewired during the process of writing the new EP.

With the influence of video games always apparent in the group’s music and visual aesthetic, the album’s title references one particular game. “The original idea was a death mass for the titular character, a robot from the game Sonic Adventure,” they share. “I still remember playing that game as a kid, especially when E-102 ultimately sacrifices himself to free the small bird imprisoned inside him. To me, that act of self-sacrifice represents the sort of selflessness and love we need in this increasingly isolated, colder world we live.”

Arriving with the pulsing new track is a video which sees a glitched-out, Neon-Genesis-like structure which—spoiler, though the EP cover sort of beat me to it—ultimately reveals itself to spell out the song title rather than getting the shit beat out of it by an endless succession of weird, large alien monsters. Check it out below.
