Back in 2018, Chicago experimental sound artist Jenny Pulse dropped her longstanding Spa Moans moniker shortly after releasing her debut album as Good Fuck alongside Joan of Arc vocalist Tim Kinsella, which merged her ear for sound design with Kinsella’s tendencies to, say, name one of his projects something like “Good Fuck.” After saying goodbye to Joan of Arc a few years later, the duo have amassed a healthy discography while solidifying an entertaining live show ahead of the release of their forthcoming EP Gimme Altamont, their first as a duo to be released under their own names.

With that project dropping at the end of the month, Kinsella & Pulse continue to hype the project today with a new music video for the track “Modern Wing.” I guess “hype” may not be the right word here, as the visual takes the track’s scattered, minimal instrumental and near-whispered vocals a step further. “Last year we unexpectedly ended up staying out in the woods for three months,” the duo shares, setting the scene for the video which sees Kinsella and Pulse bored on a couch for three minutes. “As we pulled back into town after that, our good friend Chris Strong asked us to stop at his studio while it was set up like a doctor’s office for a commercial job. We sat for the camera and did nothing for as long as we could. He made subtle Pina Bausch loops of our restless non-movements.

“We always kinda thought of this song as our triumphant anthem,” they add. “But as the video reflects, same as everyone, we are having a tough time, not feeling particularly triumphant or anthemic at the moment.”
