It’s probably been about two decades since I’ve thought about Stomp, the group-percussing-with-trash-can-lids-and-other-non-instruments stage production that reached the level of ubiquity at the turn of the millennium achieved by few cultural moments that side of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Yet multi-hyphenate street-fashion figure Kerwin Frost has evidently been thinking about it, channeling that show’s distinct visual style and general whole-deal in the new promo for his forthcoming summer Adidas collab, which sees an unexpected collection of public figures—including Mac DeMarco, Kilo Kish, Tim Robinson, RXK Nephew, and Teezo Touchdown—engaging in Stomp-like activities that most of them rehearsed.
Reprising his classic clueless-guy persona from I Think You Should Leave, Detroiters, and other comedic outlets, Robinson is unsurprisingly the odd man out in the clip, his expression shifting from spontaneous joy drumming on a barrel opposite DeMarco to insecure consternation the moment he realizes the rest of the crew seemingly had an elaborate routine worked out. The whole thing ventures into the surreal once RXK enters the mix, bringing with him his dizzying and unendingly bizarre lyrics. Watch the whole thing in its late-’90s video quality below.
