Earlier this year, sword-wielding pop star Carly Rae Jepsen released the single "Western Wind" with no news of a follow-up album to 2019's Dedicated. Today, however, word that Jepsen has been hard at work on another studio album has arrived. Her forthcoming project is called The Loneliest Time and it's out October 21.
Yesterday, in a post teasing the album announcement, Jepsen shared a video that features an animated moon. "The moon is not just for lovers," she says in the clip. "It is for any lonely soul that longs for something more. The moon contains all of our secrets. It evokes feelings of longing, hopefulness, sadness, and even a little romance. It's a reminder to us in its constancy that even when we are having the loneliest time, we are never really alone."
Today, she she wrote on IG: "I’m quite fascinated by loneliness. It can be really beautiful when you turn it over and look at it. Just like love, it can cause some extreme human reactions."
Whether I'm crying to CRJ or dancing to her—which it seems like we'll be doing a little bit of both with this release—I know I'll still be having the time of my life. In addition to all this cryptic postings about loneliness and the moon, she announced a tour with Empress Of that's bound to be a night out not to be missed.
