While Upchuck have made plenty of noise in DIY spaces around Atlanta over the past four years, the punk collective is aiming to bring their raucous sound to a wider audience in the coming months. Along with tour dates in September and October opening for Amyl & the Sniffers and The Paranoyds across the South, the band is also revealing that their debut album Sense Yourself will arrive in the midst of those dates, with a September 30 release date via Famous Class Records penciled in.

Although the group juggles hardcore punk, post-punk, elements of hip-hop, and additional experimentation in a way not entirely dissimilar to Turnstile, the first single from the collection arrives today as a skate-punk jam—despite clocking in at about twice the length you’d expect from the genre—complete with a psychedelic visual filmed at a local skate park. Tapping into the wider lyrical themes across the album, “Boss Up” addresses social awareness and inclusionism within the confrontational lyrics belted out by vocalist KT.

“‘Boss Up’ is an upfront memo for all,” the frontperson shares. “Focus on maximizing your hard work against the systems in place that take advantage of you, while celebrating the small victories along the way. Because we have a long way to go before society has found a means to be a safe space.”
