In spite of the pop song structure they typically adhere to, Austin heavy-psych troupe The Black Angels have always managed to churn out music that feels fit for a film soundtrack—specifically a vaguely surreal party scene like the one in Mean Streets where the evening transitions from reckless indulgence to a solitary moment of collapsing onto the nearest piece of furniture. While it exists firmly within the same sonic universe as their near two decades of prior output, the band had a different scene in mind when composing the thick buzzing and sinister undercurrent on their new track “Without a Trace.”

“We have always said that if you can rob a bank to our music then we are in the right ballpark,” the band shares with the reveal of their latest single and opening track from Wilderness of Mirrors, their sixth LP. “And while we don't condone robbing a bank, the idea alone creates an anticipatable, adrenaline-inducing soundtrack for your mind.”

Before the new album is released on September 16, get lost in the dense folds and distant screams of the ominously driving “Without a Trace” below.
