In addition to recently celebrating 10 years of TNGHT’s self-titled EP, Hudson Mohawke is on the verge of releasing his latest collection of solo music titled Cry Sugar, which arrives this Friday. Doubling down on that 2012 release’s instrumental hip-hop infused with an implicit sense of humor, the new music (not to mention the album cover) continues to skirt the line of earnest hip-hop-sourced production and cartoonish exaggeration—the latter of which comes through in a new video for one of the record’s recent singles ahead of its release later in the week.

Paired with just-a-bit-over-the-top instrumental that vaguely recalls a wonky take on Quad City DJs’ Space Jam theme, the video for “Bicstan” is the product of comedians Patti Harrison (who also stars) and Alan Resnick, and it sees a competent baller go toe-to-toe on the basketball court with what looks like a backup dancer for Charli XCX in a game that ends in a triple-digit difference in points. Over the course of the video’s five minutes the dancer is reminded by her frantic coach of her superpowers and an unexplained “deal” that lends itself to a complex backstory vaguely spelled out in flashback before she changes the pacing the of the game—though not the imbalance in score.
