There’s always been a powerful sense of introspection behind Marina Allen’s music. The LA-based songwriter crafts songs delicate enough that her unique and often nearly speak-sung vocals are always front and center as she mulls over personal matters—in the case of her forthcoming record Centrifics, pandemic-inspired reflections on self-improvement, specifically, tie the songs together.

Yet the latest single from the collection, as described by the songwriter herself, is her “hypeman song.” “I wrote it for a friend I really believe in, who was stuck in their own thoughts,” she shares of the characteristically calm yet driving track which serves as inspiration for a loved one to keep going. “It’s a wake-up song, a friendship song, a song I wrote because I needed to hear it too.”

Hear it below, and pre-order the album here. If you’re in LA, you can also catch Allen at the Lodge Room on September 21 for her release show—tickets are on sale here.
