A couple months ago, cartoon rockstars Gorillaz hinted that there was some weird shit going on with their single "Cracker Island," which featured Thundercat—it seemed that the group had joined (or started?) a cult. Now it turns out that Gorillaz are actually searching for "the one truth to fix the world." It also happens that that single from earlier this summer is the title track off the group's forthcoming album out February 24 via Warner Records. The announcement comes with a new single "New Gold" featuring Tame Impala and Bootie Brown, the rapper featured on Gorillaz's 2005 single "Dirty Harry."
Gorillaz' eighth studio album—which was recorded in London and LA earlier this year and produced by Greg Kurstin, Gorillaz, and Remi Kabaka Jr.—features other big names including Stevie Nicks, Adeleye Omotayo, Bad Bunny, and Beck. “The hallowed tones of Cracker Island will soundtrack our collective ascension into the new dimension!” the band's Murdoc Niccals cryptically promised.
Guitarist Noodle added that “Cracker Island is the sound of change and the chorus of the collective," while Russel Hobbs noted: “When the reckoning comes, gotta be ready to step through the gateway. Cracker Island’s got the entry codes…” 2D, meanwhile, makes reference to the fact that the island is somehow underwater. All interesting and mysterious comments from the famed semi-fictional collective.
