Austin-based five-piece Uncommon People have barely been around two years, which makes it interesting to follow the project’s trajectory as they continue to find their footing. With an early penchant for alt-R&B and neo-soul, last month’s “Knock” took their sound in a smoother, more polished direction. Today, though, they’re sharing a collaborative track with fellow Austinite Metallic Forrest that takes them deeper into the realm of hip-hop.

Although the title “Vampire” makes the track feel particularly seasonal, the subject it addresses is the all-too-common encounter of parasitic relationships. “I’ve had to learn how to dodge people and relationships that exude signs of leechiness,” lead vocalist Zeke shares. “Usually masked in a smile, there’s something parasitic underneath. Something that can seem to give but only take.”

Meanwhile, the instrumental’s dark textures solidify it as a decent candidate for your Halloween playlist. Check out the track below.
