Back in September, Arizona-reared songwriter Hataałiinez Wheeler—a.k.a. Hataałii—made his debut for Dangerbird Records with the relaxed croon of “Land of Poor Chance” for the label’s ongoing Microdose Single Series. While no plans for an official follow-up to last year’s self-titled debut album have been announced, today we’re getting a second single from Wheeler for the Single Series in the form of the vibier “President’s Got Me All Night Long”—a DeMarco-esque euphoric-slacker ballad tapping into Bob Dylan’s most unpredictable vocal zones.
“I made ‘President’s Got Me All Night Long’ in my friend Kai’s dorm room during my first semester at [University of New Mexico],” Hataałii shares of the single, which arrives alongside a video that illustrates a similar sense of community-based creativity. “We’d all go there after class sometimes and just hang out. I think it’s important that I record in an environment where I can let loose and be myself, and typically if it isn't by myself it’s been with other Natives.”
