WATCH: The First Trailer For Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Inherent Vice” Is Here
The much-anticipated Thomas Pynchon adaptation is due out December 12 in limited release
One of the most anticipated films of the year, Inherent Vice is looming on the Oscar season horizon, and it looks like it’s poised to make some serious waves. Combining the literary and cinematic juggernauts of Thomas Pynchon and Paul Thomas Anderson, respectively, the film follows private investigator Doc Sportello (played by Joaquin Phoenix) as he falls down the rabbit hole of early ’70s Los Angeles while working on a case.
Alongside many, many reasons to see the film, PTA’s follow up to 2012’s The Master also notably features Joanna Newsom’s feature-film debut (that’s her voice narrating the trailer), as well as a supposed cameo from the notoriously reclusive Pynchon himself (good luck spotting him, though).
Grab ahold of something, and check out the trailer below. As Pynchon might say, “A screaming comes across the sky…”
