Not only is Jesse Clasen and Jacob Michael’s sophomore album as Foreign Air their most personal affair to date lyrically, but the entirety of Hello Sunshine was written, recorded, produced, and engineered by the DC-based pair, as if to emphasize the solitariness of the recordings in addition to granting them full creative control over their work. 

It feels on brand, then, that their recent “Neighborhoods” set was filmed on the opposite side of the country, deep in the lush Shasta-Trinity National Forest in California. With just Clasen performing, the new album’s colorful title track is transformed into a pensive, patient acoustic number, with its muted sound amplifying the peacefulness of the surrounding environment.
