The only thing that’s currently trendier in music right now than announcing a new project that’s a collaboration forged via text message during the early days of the pandemic is announcing a new project that is entirely ungoogleable, which probably makes @ the trendiest band in the world right now. Victoria Rose and Stone Filipczak are revealing plans for their debut album under the moniker today with Mind Palace Music set to arrive February 17 via (the also trendy) Carpark Records. Ahead of that release date, we’re getting a sample of the left-field folk the record explores with its lead single “Friendship Is Frequency.”

Musically, the track exhibits the balance between Rose’s folk proclivities and Filipczak’s experience gigging alongside experimental groups like Black Pus and Guerilla Toss. Similarly, Rose’s honest and open lyricism gets emboldened by the visual language Filipczak aims to translate into words. “I had just been on a run with an older friend of mine…he said something about how friendship is all about frequency, you have to see people often in order for that familiarity and trust to form,” Filipczak explains. “I thought that sounded cool and started to conceptualize a double-entendre using the word ‘frequency’ in its musicological sense. I imagined a visual waveform representing two people’s lives, and that’s where the heart of the song comes from.”

The track arrives with a claymated visual that attempts to translate the lyrics back to their visual form. Check it out below.
