Chicago grunge trio Salvation have consistently been releasing music since 2015, with their fourth and latest collection of songs MOCK scheduled to arrive this Friday via their new label home of Reptilian Records. With early single “Backwards Bunny” emphasizing the band’s penchant for noise rock, their latest sample of the record takes a slightly different approach to expressing extreme emotions. “Drag,” the LP’s opening track, is injected with the type of soulful punk blues peddled by groups like OBN III’s, with Jason Sipe’s prominent vocals setting the scene for the rest of the album.

“It's kind of a self loathing anthem, and a way to deal with my depression by making fun of myself and the idea of someone reaching out to help me feel better but hitting a wall with how reluctant I can be to receive encouragement when battling a bout of depression,” Sipe explains of the single.

“It’s just a collection of feelings,” he noted of the full LP when MOCK was first announced. “I guess it’s my way of communicating with whoever might hear our music and my way of documenting and publicly expressing who I am and the way I feel at this point in my life.” While the emotions may all be contemporary, the sounds of MOCK frequently invoke the wave of noisy hardcore groups that dominated the ’90s alt-rock scenes.
