More so than in most other corners of rock music, shoegaze is a genre where a simple, natural idea can be elevated to a chillingly full sound when backed up with enough reverb. Such is the case with the new single from NYC-based four-piece Keep, which arrives ahead of the February 3 release date set for their newly announced LP Happy in Here. “Dasani Daydream” takes a demo the band threw together and injects it with so much vigor that it could fill stadiums if it needed to.

“Upon its creation, ‘Dasani Daydream’ was the clear frontrunner to be the first single off of Happy in Here,” the band shares of the new single, which feels like a cross between ’90s shoegaze elites like Hum and the darker sounds of ’80s darkwave. “The energy in the room was magnetic as we were writing; the pieces fell into place effortlessly, which rarely happens for us.”

In spite of the track’s heaviness instrumentally, the lyrics buried deep in its scuzzy textures provide a grounding message to take a step back and consider what really matters in life. “‘Dasani Daydream’ serves as a reminder to go easier on yourself, to allow things to be small if they are small in the grand scheme of things.”

Check out the beach-set visual for the lead single below. You can pre-order the record here—presumably that money will go toward a bass drum that isn’t full of sand/warped by salt water.
