Last July, Young Fathers returned after the four-year silence following 2018’s Cocoa Sugar with the track “Geronimo,” which we’ve since learned will appear on the Scottish experimental trio’s fourth studio album Heavy Heavy due out via Ninja Tune just shy of their last album’s five-year anniversary. Since last summer the band has only increased our thirst for new material with two more singles “I Saw” and “Tell Somebody,” and today they’re sharing another look at the project by unleashing the LP’s opening track “Rice.”

At two and a half minutes, the single is a familiar blend of neo-soul, art-pop, and globe-spanning sounds intricately stitched together that swell to a jubilant climax. While it may set the tone for the nine tracks that follow, their previous releases suggest the rest of the album will pull in totally different directions. Check out the visualizer for the track below, and expect Heavy Heavy out February 3.
