At the end of the month, Minneapolis’ Bad Bad Hats will celebrate 10 years of their debut EP It Hurts with a reissue of the project that will see it pressed to vinyl for the first time. But that’s not the only perk—the new edition includes remastered and demo versions of each of the EP’s five tracks. Following the unveiling of the remastered single “Super America,” the band is back with a previously unheard demo of the title track that’s stripped down to acoustic guitar, kazoo, and Kerry Alexander’s vocals.

“‘It Hurts’ has become such a big song for us, but it had very humble beginnings,” Alexander shares, recalling the single’s inception. “It was born in the midst of an all-nighter in Paris, where I was studying abroad in the Spring of 2011. My friend and I were commiserating via text over the amount of paper we still had left to write. I said, ‘Well, the night is young.’ She responded, ‘It’s so young, it hurts.’ Et voila!”

Check out the demo below, and pre-order It Hurts (10th Anniversary Edition) here before its January 27 release.
