Less than a month after unveiling their debut single, TV Star are already gearing up for the release of their first collection of songs this Friday. Hallucinate Me gathers six recordings from the newly minted outfit which pair the visceral textures of ’60s psych rock, ’80s dream pop, and ’90s neo-psych in the spacey vein of The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The second single from the collection arrives today in the form of “In-Between,” an upbeat-yet-zoned-out anthem for ditching societal expectations and living freely. “‘In-Between’ is about breaking out of a funk, letting go of the pressure, and living the way you want to,” vocalist Ashlyn Nagel shares. “It’s about caring less what others think and making self-fulfilling decisions.”
The perfect balance of dreamily strummed acoustic guitar and cow-punk electric guitar, the track arrives with a Nate Kahn–directed music video which recreates visual film textures of the eras the band’s music pulls from. “The video is an attempt to convey the simplicity and absentmindedness of being in limbo, fading in and out of one another,” Nagel adds.
