WATCH: Lykke Li Releases an Emotional Cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”

The Swedish singer-songwriter and Canadian rapper are both set to perform at Coachella this weekend

With only one day until her appearance at Coachella (and the only US date scheduled this year), Swedish indie-pop artist Lykke Li has decided to mark the occasion with a tip of her cap to Sunday’s headliner Drake with an echoey cover of Nothing Was The Same‘s “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”

Lykke Li takes the upbeat smash hit from Drake’s 2013 LP and injects new life into the track through her haunting vocals, eerie guitar riffs, and a ton of reverb. Instead of the track’s original upbeat tone, Li’s cover is something more reminiscent of a lament about the memory of good times, as opposed to actually having them.

If imitation and covers are truly the sincerest form of flattery, then Drake and Lykke Li absolutely adore each other, with Li’s nod serving as a long-overdue response to Drake’s 2009 cover of her track “Little Bit.”

Both Drake and Lykke Li will be performing at Coachella this weekend.
