Seems safe to say there’ll be plenty more people familiar with the name Friko by the end of the week, as the Chicago-based power-pop trio are certain to stand out among the hundreds of acts gracing the various SXSW stages this year. After making their mark in their hometown in the past few years, they’re preparing to traverse the western half of the US and Canada over the next month following a handful of sets in Austin, performing tracks from the slew of EPs and singles they’ve unleashed dating back to 2020.

Before they appear in Austin, though, they’re sharing another new single through Fire Talk’s Open Tab series called “Crimson to Chrome,” which perfectly demonstrates their endearingly earnest take on rock music, here balancing the rousing melodies of big-venue anthems with the recklessness of a tiny DIY space. “‘Crimson to Chrome’ is one of those songs that feel like they’re at the heart of who we are as a band and the kind of music we try to make,” the band shares.

The track’s video offers a preview of what their upcoming tour should have in store, mixing footage from the tour van with scenes of a rowdy basement set (not to mention an encounter with a historical reenactor which bookends the visual). “We’re so grateful we could make a video with friends to reflect that and that everyone involved in making this song and video were just extensions of the Friko family.”
