In an age where meet-cutes are almost entirely orchestrated on dating apps, any romantic encounter in the real world can feel like something straight out of a fairy tale. On their new single “TACO TRUCK (oh, wtf?),” LA hip-hop duo MUNNYCAT dream up a brief late-night encounter at a food truck that escalates into something long-term, with K808’s love-struck flow and producer Khaledzou’s ecstatic production driving the track’s point home.

“It’s a song about the excitement and joy of falling in love with someone in a very unusual place,” K808 details about the single, a candy-coated take on hip-hop that often borders on the dynamics of Sleigh Bells. “There’s two different voices in the song representing the different parts of your mind when you first meet someone and really like them. One part is trying to play it cool like OK, he’s cute and stuff,’ and the other is like, ‘Holy shit, this is love! Let’s get married and have tons of babies!’ It’s a delicate balance trying to maintain chill when you’ve met someone who instantly blows you away.”

Despite calling LA home, the duo actually conceived of the track while recording their debut album age of scorpio in Portland. “We were fascinated by the incredible food-truck culture there,” Khaledzou recalls. “We would wander around in the rain writing and coming up with new song ideas trying food from different trucks everyday. It was kind of magical.”
