It’s been a full six years since Portugal. The Man’s world turned upside down when their track “Feel It Still” launched the cult-rockers to mainstream stardom. Over the past half decade, the question lingered as to what their next chapter would look like, and the answer came a few months ago with the new single “Dummy,” which announced the Portland-via-Alaska group’s ninth and latest album, Chris Black Changed My Life.
Today, they’re sharing the record’s third single, which shares the previous record’s knack for interesting collaborations as “Thunderdome [W.T.A.]” brings on The Roots’ Black Thought (who’s kept busy with album-length collaborations lately) and Mexican chamber-folk songwriter Natalia Lafourcade feature on the track. The latter guest was contacted after the band’s vocalist John Gourley stumbled upon Lafourcade’s song “Hasta la Raiz”: “A haunting melody sung by a voice with so much power and expressiveness,” he described it in a press release. “Of course, Natalia is huge, but to me it was brand new. I listened to it non-stop.”
