A couple of months ago, Surfer Blood announced their third record 1000 Palms, and everything seemed groovy and sounded great. But in a very unfortunate turn of events, they announced yesterday that guitarist Thomas Fekete has been battling a rare form of cancer these past six months, and has had to step down from the band while he continues to undergo treatment.

Fekete has already undergone major surgery to remove a tumor in his abdomen, but received word from his doctors just a few days ago that the cancer has spread to his lungs and spine, requiring more rigorous treatment going forward.

To aid in the predictably exorbitant medical fees, Fekete has set up a crowdfunding campaign seeking $76,000—a balance which has thankfully already seen nearly $50,000 successfully raised in just two days. The funds will be used to make sure he sees the best treatment available, and any donations not ultimately needed will go towards cancer research. You can read more and donate here.

Cancer sucks. Get well, Thomas.
