In what feels like an entire lifetime ago within an exponentially changing music scene, 2010 was approximately the year Lil B and Shabazz Palaces won over music blogs with two very different takes on the future of rap. It’s a little hard to believe their paths never crossed at any point over the past 13 years of prolific collaboration, but both rappers finally appear together on the latest Kassa Overall single—who first surfaced around 2010 himself on a Das Racist guest verse—which will appear on the jazz drummer/rapper’s forthcoming LP Animals, along with an additional credit for Francis and the Lights (who also happened to drop an EP in 2010).

In spite of invoking decades past, each contributor on “Going Up” maintains the future-looking outlook that’s defined their careers over the past decade and change in order to craft an impressively smooth comedown for the LP’s closing track. Check it out below before the full album (which additionally features early-’10s rap staples like Danny Brown and then-Ratking emcee Wiki) drops this Friday via Warp Records.
