Moses Sumney has shared a cover of Billie Holiday’s 1944 classic “I’ll Be Seeing You.” The track has been tackled by a number of seminal artists, including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Norah Jones. Additionally, Holiday’s version was the final transmission sent by NASA to the Opportunity rover on Mars when its mission ended in 2019.
Now, Sumney inserts himself into the conversation with a moving rendition of the track that still remains faithful to the original. Sumney’s version, which features in the eighth episode of National Geographic’s A Small Light, is built around warm piano chords, an elegant harp run, dusty and cavernous drums, and Sumney’s powerful voice front and center.
Este Haim also participated in the series as executive music producer, soliciting Danielle Haim, Kamasi Washington, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, and others for cover songs. Hear Sumney’s contribution below.
