With the previous class of artists blending noise and electronic chaos achieving new levels of success over the past few years, it’s been exciting to see new figures primed to take their place as groundbreaking musicians like Lu$tSickPuppy and GHÖSH bring a certain horrorcore angst to the digital-hardcore scene. In line with these East Coast underground figures is 3L3D3P (a.k.a. Marina Thompson), who’s holding things down in LA with a similarly pulsing—though slightly more ambiently minimal—take on this phenomenon.

In the wake of the breakout success of 2021’s “ibtbt” single, 3L3D3P released another attention-grabbing track earlier this year with “idontlisten,” a slightly more pop-structured (but equally cyberpunk) recording prone to drum ’n’ bass digressions and disorienting warped-vocal bridges. Fortifying the tech-futurism of the song is its new video, which 3L3D3P shares brought her back to her childhood. “I’d spend hours making music videos on my own,” Thompson explains of the new self-created clip. “I really wanted the essence of 3L3D3P to ring true through the visualization of this video, so I directed, styled, and handled post-production of the video myself. It took a lot of time, it made me a little bit more insane, but it also felt natural. The cuts, the style, the feel of the video are fueled with my blood.”

Check it out below. If you’re in LA, catch 3L3D3P at The Roxy on July 9—tickets are available here.
