It may not be a remarkable coincidence when two twenty-something musicians in Brooklyn learn they share an affinity for The Strokes upon first meeting, but it does seem a bit eerie when both parties forego the iconic status of This Is It entirely when they agree upon the Room on Fire closer “Under Control” as their favorite song by the band (a coincidence furthered by Fleet Foxes’ evident love for the song expressed earlier this week).

Naturally, after songwriters Aaron Taos and Jordana first connected over this oddly specific mutual interest, it wasn’t long before they hit the studio with producer Blake Richardson to bring their own version of it to life. Revisited as a duet, and pared down even further from the relative calm of its original version tacked onto the end of the band’s antsiest record, the cover takes commendable liberties while paying plenty of homage to the original. “We just want to make Julian Casablancas proud,” Taos shares.

The cover arrives with a visual directed by Pierce Pyrzenski which sees Taos and Jordana roaming the streets of Brooklyn, laying down the track in the studio, and, notably, burning sage in front of a shrine they created for a CD copy of Room on Fire. Check it out below.
