In February, NYC-based songwriter Nicole Rodriguez unveiled her debut album as Pearla, Oh Glistening Onion, the Nighttime Is Coming, which introduced the artist’s unique take on indie folk balladry backed by brooding ambiance and the epic spaciness of a post-rock soundscape. Yet little of that specific personality comes through on Rodriguez’s latest track, a one-off single arriving ahead of her string of dates playing alongside Miss Grit, A.O. Gerber, and Kacy & Clayton. “Get in Touch with You,” somewhat conversely, is a conventional and fairly playful country-rock number.

Aside from the occasional searing electric guitar lick, the track is a straightforward take on catchy pop-country as Rodriguez sings about achieving a certain balance. “The song is about trying not to lose yourself in another person—the push and pull of wanting to be around someone and also trying to stay grounded in yourself,” she shares. “I wanted it to feel fun and funny and lighthearted because to me that’s what it feels like when you strike that balance…being present with your own honest heart and the people you love at the same time.”
