DC-based songwriter Caroline Weinroth, who releases music under the name Cinema Hearts, has announced that her sophomore EP I Want You will be released September 22. She also shared the project’s lead single, the ’60s-girl-group-influenced “Fender Factory,” which was inspired by her tour of the famous guitar workshop in Corona, California.
“I went with my family when I was 20 and was the only girl in the group,” Weinroth shared in a press release. “I was really excited to visit since I play a Fender Jaguar, and I love the surf rock history of Fender. I told this to the male tour guide, and he made fun of me the whole tour and quizzed me on random guitar parts to see if I was a ‘real’ guitarist. I cried after and wrote this song. It’s since become an anthem to subvert the machismo of rock music.”
I Want You was produced by Don Godwin, and it follows Cinema Hearts’ 2022 debut EP, the Bartees Strange–produced Your Ideal. To mark the announcement, Weinroth also released a video for “Fender Factory” inspired by her time volunteering with Girls Rock! DC and featuring her own guitar students.
