It was only March of last year that Denzel Curry released his fourth LP Melt My Eyez See Your Future, but it doesn’t feel like his presence has waned any since then—largely due to the fact that he’s resurfaced over and over as a guest on tracks by IDK, Armani White, JELEEL!, Jasiah, Sampa the Great, Flatbush Zombies’ Meechy Darko, and more since then, not to mention landing an original song on the Elvis soundtrack and covering Erikah Badu at Electric Lady. Yet last week Curry could already be seen teasing his next chapter with an Omar Jones–directed visual for a new track called “Blood on My Nikez,” which saw the rapper returning to his Southern hip-hop roots after a brief stint foreseeing the future of rap.
Today, though, Curry has revealed a full version of the track, which features a guest verse from Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J to further draw ties to the legacy of regional hip-hop channeled on the instrumental. There’s no word on whether the track is a part of his planned Melt My Eyez follow-up Designed by Angels, however in a Miami New Times interview last year he noted that that project was inspired by a very different set of influence: Frank Ocean, D’Angelo, and OutKast’s The Love Below.
