In the new trailer for Woody Allen‘s latest opus Irrational Man, Joaquin Phoenix plays an unstable philosophy professor in the throes of an existential crises. That is, until Emma Stone comes along and they…eavesdrop at a diner? It’s not totally clear what happens, but we’re intrigued nonetheless.

Irrational Man follows Woody Allen’s 2014 film Magic in the Moonlight, which also starred Stone. Phoenix and Stone are joined by Parker Posey in the new movie, which hits the big screen on July 24.
