While it’s not quite a technical term, the title of PYNKIE’s upcoming third LP, Songies, is an apt descriptor for the collection of track which, by her own definition, are “short, sweet, and to-the-point.” The latest of these recordings to be released sees Lindsey Radice going full minimalist as she meditates on the concept of time. “The original demo was just me singing and playing guitar over the ticking of a clock,” she reveals of the new track, titled “Time_60bpm.” “I wanted to keep it that way until John Messina (a.k.a. Social Media), my boyfriend/keyboardist/synth player/co-producer, added all the beautiful production that really made it 10 times cooler!”
Although not quite as stripped-back as it was originally conceived to be, the two-minute song (songie?) sees Radice syncing acoustic strums to the sounds of a ticking clock before her gentle, longing vocals and Messina’s backing ambient whooshes tie the whole thing together. “I put myself in the headspace of a character I created in my head and write from that perspective while also drawing from themes in my own life,” she shares of the track’s lyrical narrative. “I pretended I was a fictional girl in her room staring at a clock and singing/playing guitar to it, thinking about someone she missed desperately.”
