Established in 2004 as a modest two-day event in a VR warehouse in downtown Helsinki, Finland, Flow Festival moved to a decommissioned power plant in the industrial Suvilahti neighborhood in 2007, where they've since grown to include internationally renowned musical acts in addition to visual art, film screenings, talks, and cuisine. Now attracting over 90,000 fans over the course of three days, this year's lineup featured Lorde's first-ever live performance in Finland, as well as an eclectic mix of artists—from Britpop heroes Blur and Suede, to pop trailblazers Christine and the Queens and Tove Lo, to new wave greats Devo.
The 2023 edition was set to be the final year at the power plant, with impending renovations planned for the area, but they've since received a reprieve and will be returning to the location in 2024. FLOOD photographer Joshua Mellin—no stranger to the unique Helsinki festival, having covered the fest's post-pandemic return last year—ventured back once again to witness the event's evolution firsthand.
