Boston-based four-piece shallow pools have a message. All proud members of the LGBTQ+ community, the band uses music to spread awareness and solidarity, whether that’s to anybody watching them live or listening to them on record. Formed in 2018, the band released three EPs between 2019 and 2022, and are now unveiling details surrounding their first full-length, I Think About It All the Time, with the release of a new single called “Nightmare.”

The follow-up to previous single “Say What You Want”—co-written with PVRIS’s Lynn Gunn—“Nightmare” was inspired by some of the inappropriate actions and behavior the band has witnessed by men in the crowd when on tour and felt compelled to write about to offer support to anybody who may have on the receiving end of such behavior. “We want this song to empower anyone who has been in a similar situation,” explains the band, “and we hope that we’re one step closer to creating a safe space for everyone in the music scene.”

A sinister, moody, and dark electro-pop track, “Nightmare” demonstrates how that message can be conveyed through slick, sophisticated songwriting and production that both amplifies its intensity while at the same time making it more accessible. Watch the video, which was directed by the band’s drummer Ali Ajemian, below. You can pre-save I Think About It All the Time here.
