If the French dance music we’ve been shouting about all year has been too melancholy or downright spooky for your taste, we may have the perfect antidote: Quebecois electronic trio Le Couleur will release their sexy, upbeat concept album Comme dans un penthouse at the end of September, which sees the outfit continue to evolve from their Stereolab-esque early recordings into something more in line with the conventions of French house music, nu-disco, and sophisti-pop. Those influences are fully evident in the record’s latest single “À la rencontre de Barbara,” which lyrically doubles as a proper introduction to the LP’s main character.

Meanwhile, to introduce Comme dans un penthouse’s sterile textures and tense futurism they’re sharing a video for the Standard Emmanuel (of Choses Sauvages)–featuring track directed by Nathan Nardin and his collaborators at The NNS which feels like a warped-AI take on a luxury car commercial, with human figures and urban landscapes both shifting from beauty in one moment to uncanny the next. “In the heart of a glittering metropolis, a pair of shoes triggers an enigmatic quest for an elusive figure,” the band shares of the video’s narrative. “Guided by urban lights, a traveler explores a nocturnal stroll, awakening lost memories and forgotten dreams. As secrets converge, Barbara’s mysterious story unfolds, captivating the viewer between reality and illusion.”
