In addition to being united in holy matrimony, musicians Julia Kugel and Scott Montoya also happen to be wedded as collaborators in the dream-pop duo Soft Palms, as well as co-founders of the Long Beach–based music, arts, small business, and community–focused Happy Sundays Fest, which will see its seventh installment take place this weekend. This year features the re-introduction of a comedy stage as well as the addition of two stages curated by Suicide Squeeze Records (who recently put out Kugel’s debut solo album as Julia, Julia, as well as a number of past releases by her band The Coathangers), injecting the lineup with even more psych-punk and garage-rock than the festival’s locale already invited.
Leading up to the event, the duo of Kugel and Montoya have shared a playlist collecting tunes by some of the event’s most exciting acts, from SSR signees L.A. Witch and The Paranoyds to longtime staples of the scene such as Guantanamo Baywatch and The Shivas. Learn more about the event here, and stream their playlist below.
