It’s no coincidence that dayaway—the dreamy side-project of CLAVVS’s Amber Renee and Graham Marsh—are releasing their EP blue summer moon in the middle of the week. Tonight marks the year’s only blue moon, a bit of astronomical coincidence that was too perfect to ignore while the duo was writing these six tracks as a postscript to summer romance. “I wrote blue summer moon before realizing that 2023 had a very rare blue summer super moon,” Renee shares. “I became very attached to the idea of releasing on that day. There was something fortuitous and synchronistic about it that felt special.”

The final track to be revealed from the collection is its title track, which arrives today with a one-take music video recalling Coldplay’s iconic “Yellow” video (only the weather’s way less, y’know, British). As Renee recites the track’s lyrics, slowly making her way down the surf, the band’s unique blend of modern and vintage sounds feel like the perfect music for the golden-hour moment. “Graham and I are very inspired by the legacy of beach music,” Renee goes on to share. “You’ll hear elements of surf rock, ’60s psychedelia, and modern indie-pop [across the EP]. Ultimately, we’re creating a sonic world that sounds like an afternoon at the beach, from the sunny midday highs to the dusky, moody lows.”

Check out those dusky, moody lows below.
