A few weeks ago, Blur, boygenius, Pusha T, Lorde, Devo, and plenty of other exciting bands touched down in Oslo to perform at the Norwegian city’s annual Øyafestivalen, a tradition that dates back nearly 25 years. In addition to these international superstars, though, the fest hosted a vast array of local talent that’s lesser known in the US, which we’re aiming to spotlight in our new “Neighborhoods” miniseries focused on such groups as they perform in various locations around the city.
The first installment of the series sees Oslo-based fourpiece Darling West bringing their cosmic folk music to Youngstorget, a pedestrian-heavy spot near a public square. Set up outside the iconic Bonanza-themed watering hole (called, you guessed it, Bonanza), the group strip things down for an acoustic performance of their songs “Light Ahead” and “Oh Love,” which appear on their recent LP Cosmos.
