2015. “Mr. Holmes” trailer

It might not have heroes with supernatural powers and massive explosions in it, but the charming cast and delightful seaside setting of Mr. Holmes is more than enough to compete against other big budget blockbuster films coming out this summer.

Today, a brand-new trailer for the Bill Condon–directed film about the famous and fabled British detective was released, giving viewers a closer look at (the excellent acting instructor) Sir Ian Mckellen in the title role.

Beyond grappling with all of the personal misconceptions that that embellishing Watson pushed out into the world, within the film Holmes finds himself thrust into one final case that, naturally, involves attempted murder, scorned lovers, and (most importantly) interrupting his retirement. Instead of working with his original sleuthing partner, Holmes is joined by an adorable young boy (Milo Parker) and his mother (the always wonderful Laura Linney).

Mr. Holmes will be out in theaters on July 17.
