Tapping into both the neo-psych revival and the current wave of art-brut DIY rappers, LA’s Kurupi has announced a new EP today titled Mano, which will be the Paraguay-born musician’s first for Hit the North Records. Ahead of the project’s November 17 release, we’re getting the lead single “Deep State Nine,” which features help from fellow emcee FourHEAD and guitarist/vocalist v_nus m_jia.

Driven by a grooving drum-and-bass foundation, “Deep State Nine” is dominated by Kurupi and FourHEAD’s dialed-in verses and v_nus m_jia’s colorful guitar riff. “It’s an ode to kissing goodbye to your teens and moving to LA,” Kurupi shares of the track, which ultimately recalls the back-and-forth raps and indie-rock-inspired instrumentals of Paris Texas (Kurupi also cites both System of a Down and Soulja Boy as defining elementary school discoveries if that reference is too left-field for you).

Check out the self-directed video for the track below, and pre-order the EP here.
