After a phenomenal return to the big screen in 2011 and a slightly less phenomenal sequel last year, this week The Muppets have officially solidified their comeback with the trailer for their new upcoming TV show for ABC. The promo, which was tweeted on Wednesday by the show’s official account, finds Kermit and company talking over the prospect of the new series in their classic self-aware, comical fashion. Cheeky pop-culture references run rampant in the trailer and, though our favorite frog and Miss Piggy appear to be on the rocks, Fozzie Bear seems to be in for some real romance.

According to Vulture, who spoke with show co-creator Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory), the new series will revolve around the Muppets attempting to run their own late night talk show, with Miss Piggy as the host and Kermit as the executive producer. Back in the ’70s, The Muppet Show‘s original “vaudeville-style spectacular” format was more than just pure family-fun entertainment, it reflected what was on America’s small screens at the time—variety shows. This new Muppet reboot will be shot in a behind-the-scenes mockumentary style, in an effort to parody today’s hit comedies like The Office and Parks and Recreation (much to Gonzo’s Gary’s chagrin).

The Muppets will air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. this fall on ABC.
