MGMT have announced their fifth studio album, Loss of Life, their first project since 2018’s Little Dark Age. The duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser worked on the 10-track LP with producer Patrick Wimberly (Beyoncé, Lil Yachty) and longtime collaborator Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Spoon), who mixed the album as he has done on all four of the group’s past full-lengths.
Loss of Life is set to arrive on February 23 via Mom+Pop Music, the band’s new home following their four-album deal with major label Columbia Records. To celebrate the news, the band has shared a new single and video entitled “Mother Nature.” According to the band, the song “outlines the archetypical MGMT mythology of one hero attempting to get the other hero to come on the journey that they ‘must’ go on. One part sounds like Oasis.”
Elsewhere on the record, Christine and the Queens appear on the song “Dancing in Babylon”—the first-ever feature on an MGMT album—while additional production is credited to Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Brian Burton (Danger Mouse), and James Richardson, with Miles A. Robinson serving as associate producer and engineer.
