After sharing a pair of jittery, minimal electronic records via Topshelf Records and Citrus City, Oakland-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kashika Kollaikal is teasing new material under her Flung moniker today with the loose single “Intrinsic” via her name label home of Get Better Records. Landing directly in line with those prior releases, the new track has a smoother feel to it, with the gently skipping loop-based instrumental feeling like a comfortable companion to Kollaikal’s cool vocals and occasional soft keyboard riffing.

“‘Intrinsic’ is grounded in intuition and a gentle insistence on the repetition of simple things,” Kollaikal shares of the track, which repeats the mantra “I go forever” alongside the looping instrumental. “It started with the rediscovery of these old loops I’d made and then the melody and lyric came soon after without much thought. To me this song feels familiar, like a warm breeze blowing by on a walk through the neighborhood.”

The ease with which the song seems to have come together is immediately evident, while the psychedelic, mostly animated video by Ami Glazer feels like an equally natural fit. Watch it below.
