California-based rapper and producer Jonwayne has returned with a new single entitled “No Joke.” The track, which isn’t yet available on DSPs, is his first since 2018’s “Last Last Fall.” Wayne’s last LP was 2017’s Rap Album Two, though he released a holiday project in 2018 titled Yuletide Bangerz.
The emcee, who’s been prolific on Patreon and on YouTube creating beat videos in recent years, taps into his classic blend of head-nodding production and clever lyrics on “No Joke.” In an almost-sardonic flow, he riffs over playful keyboards and a walking bass line. He chronicles the highs and lows of life as an indie rapper, spitting, “I went from looking for leverage to looking at the ledge / To making dynasty moves off top of the head.”
