Fat Dog may only have two singles to their name, but the South London dance-punk project has already made a considerable mark on the scene between their buzzy live shows and their debut single “King of Slugs” covering everything from freaked-out EBM to some post-rock variation of a Morricone oater across its seven-minute runtime. While there’s still no word on a debut album, today the group is releasing their second single in the form of “All the Same,” a pulsating, maximalist electronic recording kept to a relatively tight three minutes.
Much in the same way the single’s instrumental and vocals invoke the ’80s with the electro-industrial clamor of the darkest corners of new wave, the video for the single—starring Neil Bell, who you may know from 24 Hour Party People or Dead Man’s Shoes (or, if you’re American, Dune or Andor)—relies on neon lighting and an understanding of time travel inspired by Back to the Future. “What if you could turn the clock back and make a change?” the band shared in a statement, hinting at the video’s low-brow riff on the Hitler/time machine ethics question. “Just a single, well-placed kick, that perhaps could change the whole course of your life. Perhaps the party never has to stop?”
Check it out below, and expect Fat Dog’s US debut at and around SXSW in a few months.
