Following their fiftieth anniversary last year, Consequence of Sound reports that seminal British invaders The Kinks will have their story told in a new biopic titled You Really Got Me, directed by Julien Temple (Absolute Beginners). Temple has a history of working at the intersection of film and music; he began his career by directing music videos for a number of British artists—including David Bowie and The Rolling Stones—and went on to direct documentaries on the Sex Pistols, Glastonbury music festival, and Clash frontman Joe Strummer.

According to Screen Daily, the film will center around the “often turbulent relationship” between brothers and Kinks co-founders Dave and Ray Davies, to be played by actors George MacKay (Pride) and Johnny Flynn (Song One), respectively.

The film has reportedly been a “long-time passion project” of producer Jeremy Thomas (The Last Emperor) who was childhood friends with Ray and refers to the brothers as “The Cain and Abel of rock.” Thomas has secured the band’s rights and will receive help from the Davies’ brothers on the soundtrack.

The project will start shooting later this year in the UK.
