Lana Del Rey is moving on up from the tunnel under Ocean Boulevard to the bougie offices of Music Row. The shape-shifting pop star announced her next move at the Billboard and NMPA Songwriter Awards in Los Angeles yesterday. Though there may be too many awards shows these days, this one proved noteworthy if only due to Lana revealing that she’ll be dropping a yeehaw rodeo full-on country record in September titled Lasso while honoring Jack Antonoff, the forthcoming record’s producer.
”If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country,” she said. “We’re going country.” I say the same thing to myself in the mirror every morning.
“That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years,” she said from the dais. Sorry, but Jack Antonoff in Muscle Shoals is unequivocally funny.
In the meantime Lana was recently announced as a Coachella headliner, with slots at Hangout Fest, Primavera, Leeds, and more to follow leading up to the release of Lasso. Revisit our photos of Lana Del Rey performing at All Things Go last year here.
