Over half a decade since the dissolution of Brooklyn art-pop collective Tiny Hazard, the project’s primary songwriter Alena Spanger is announcing her debut solo album today, with Fire Escape collecting a dozen compositions Spanger has arranged over the years—including her debut single “Agios.” Although a solo album in name, the project is a highly collaborative effort involving instrumental and production contributions from Carlos Truly, Kitba, former Tiny Hazard bandmate Ryan Weiner, and more.
The second single from the collection, “Difficult People,” expands a bit upon the minimal sounds of “Agios” as it builds into a hushed full-band ballad. “‘Difficult People’” is about getting lost in the murkiness of someone else’s feelings, and accepting the futility of trying to control inherently chaotic things,” Spanger shares about the emotionally complex track arriving today, which dives into a sort of ecstatic freefall everytime she sings the word “lovesick” leading into the chorus.
Check out “Difficult People” below, and expect Fire Escape to arrive March 22 via Ruination Record Co.
