For his last record, 2011 highlight Kaputt, Dan Bejar took Destroyer into new-wave sheen and sax solo heaven. Since then, he got back together with his Canadian clan The New Pornographers for last year’s revelrous Brill Bruisers. By the sound of it, Bejar’s not done with the party quite yet.
“Dream Lover,” the first track from Destroyer’s just-announced new record Poison Season, has all the brassy and sax-y trademarks of the band’s repertoire, and if we weren’t so keen to Bejar’s temperament, we might think this was a celebratory affair. “Oh, shit, here comes the sun,” he reminds us. Naturally.
Poison Season will be out August 28 on Destroyer’s longtime label Merge.
